I am a PK if you don’t know what that is it stands for preachers kid. One of my favorite songs in church as a kid was Bless Be The Tie, not because I like the song so much but I knew when I heard that song it was time to go home lol. The day the meaning of that song change for me is when we where getting ready for the benediction and my dad the late great Pastor R L Washington Sr. of the Macedonia MBC stop that song and ask the congregation do you all know the story of the song the congregation had a blank face, he then proceeded to tell us the story. Back in the mid 1700 a man name John Fawcett was the Pastor of a small church like some pastor he wanted to one day pastor a large congregation and in 1772 he receive the call to the large and influential Carter’s Lane Baptist Church in London he planned to accept the call but at the last minute he changed his mind it was as if he thought about the love that the small church had giving him and the tight bond that they had so he remained at Wainsgate where his salary was £25 pounds a year. To commemorate this event he later wrote these words.
1. Blest be the tie that binds Our hearts in Christian love; The fellowship of kindred minds Is like to that above. 2. Before our Father's throne We pour our ardent pray'rs; Our fears, our hopes, our aims, are one, Our comforts and our cares. 3. We share our mutual woes, Our mutual burdens bear; And often for each other flows The sympathizing tear. 4. When we asunder part, It gives us inward pain; But we shall still be joined in heart, And hope to meet again.
